Tabbing or wafer sealing is required for automation mailings of letter size pieces. Seals come in various sizes and colors including clear. Colors are special orders. Although wafer seals are required only on automation letters, some direct mailers have used the seal as a "gotta open" inticement because of its sealed concept on flats and non-automation mail. They also have used wafer seals to protect the inside pages of their mailers.
